DESIGN AND IMPLEMENTATION OF E-SIWES (STUDENTS INDUSTRIAL WORK EXPERIENCE SCHEME) MANAGEMENT SYSTEM
ABSTRACT
The Students Industrial Work Experience Scheme (SIWES) is a crucial program designed to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical skills for students in tertiary institutions, particularly in technical and vocational fields. Despite its significance, the management of SIWES has remained largely manual, leading to inefficiencies such as delayed reporting, poor communication, and inadequate monitoring of student progress. This project aims to address these challenges by designing and implementing an E-SIWES Management System, a web-based platform that automates and streamlines the entire SIWES process. The system integrates all stakeholders—students, academic institutions, industry supervisors, and SIWES coordinators—into a centralized digital framework. Key features include automated student registration, placement matching, real-time monitoring of student activities, supervisor feedback, and automated report generation. The platform enhances the overall efficiency of the SIWES program by improving communication, ensuring transparency, and enabling real-time tracking of student performance. The system was developed using the Agile System Development Life Cycle (SDLC) model, which allowed for iterative design, feedback, and continuous improvement throughout the development process. Various testing methods, including unit testing, integration testing, and user acceptance testing, were conducted to ensure the system’s functionality, reliability, and security. The results demonstrate that the E-SIWES Management System successfully addresses the inefficiencies of traditional SIWES management, offering a scalable, user-friendly solution that aligns with the needs of all stakeholders. The project concludes with recommendations for the adoption of the system across institutions, ongoing system improvements, and further research into enhancing the platform with advanced features such as data analytics and mobile access. This project contributes to the modernization of SIWES management, supporting the overall goal of improving the employability of graduates by providing a seamless, efficient, and transparent platform for industrial training.
