Description
DESIGN AND IMPLEMENTATION OF A VIRTUAL E-LEARNING PLATFORM
Abstract
The rapid advancement of technology has revolutionized the educational landscape, enabling innovative methods for knowledge dissemination. This project explores the design and implementation of a virtual e-learning platform tailored for tertiary institutions in Nigeria. The platform addresses key educational challenges, including limited interactivity, accessibility issues, and the lack of robust course management systems. The system is built with three core modules: User Management, Course Management, and Interactive Tools. The User Management module ensures secure access through authentication and role-based access control, facilitating personalized user experiences for students, instructors, and administrators. The Course Management module supports the creation, organization, and tracking of courses, assignments, grades, and student progress. Interactive tools, including chat, forums, and video conferencing, foster real-time engagement and collaboration between users. Developed using the Python Django framework, React.js for the front-end, and MySQL for data storage, the platform is scalable, secure, and user-friendly. The implementation integrates RESTful APIs to enhance flexibility and interoperability. The system was tested for usability using the System Usability Scale (SUS), demonstrating high effectiveness and user satisfaction. This research highlights the potential of e-learning platforms to bridge educational gaps, especially in resource-constrained environments, and provides a foundation for future enhancements, such as AI-driven adaptive learning and blockchain-based credentialing. The findings underscore the importance of adopting innovative technological solutions to improve educational accessibility and outcomes.
