ABSTRACT
This study examined the extent to which Information and Communication Technology (ICT) facilities are available and utilised in the teaching of Biology among senior secondary schools in Oshimili North Local Government Area of Delta State. Specifically, it investigated teachers’ access to ICT tools, their level of utilisation, the perceived benefits of ICT integration, and the barriers limiting its effective use. A descriptive survey design was adopted, with 28 Biology teachers drawn from both public and private schools serving as the sample. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire and analysed through frequency counts, percentages, and mean scores. Findings revealed that while basic ICT tools such as laptops and projectors are relatively common, more advanced facilities like interactive whiteboards and subject-specific software are scarcely available. The results further indicated that teachers moderately use ICT in their instructional practices, with laptops being the most frequently applied tool. Respondents generally acknowledged that ICT promotes student engagement and enhances understanding of biological concepts. However, persistent barriers including inadequate training, limited infrastructure, and poor internet access continue to hinder effective ICT integration. The study concludes that although ICT holds significant potential for transforming the teaching of Biology, realising this promise requires targeted interventions. It recommends improved provision of ICT facilities, sustained teacher training, stronger internet infrastructure, and policy measures that encourage innovative pedagogy.
